Bobbies, AKA police officers, in West Midlands, England, are now being required to wear only “inconspicuous” underwear in “appropriate colour” underneath their uniforms according to the UK’s Express Newspaper. Apparently there will be periodic checks to ensure that everyone is following this new dress code rule and no one is sneaking in any thing red or lacy.  In addition to the restriction on anything sexy, the officers are also now banned from having any sort of panty line.

Our question is… When a police officer is coming to your rescue, or maybe hauling you in for questioning, do you really care what type of underwear they have on?

After decades of mundane, matronly shapeware, celebrities are bringing it back in a big way. What was once a woman’s dirty little secret is now a major fashion statement.  The likes of Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Rihanna have all worn extravagant corsetry on stage taking shapewear to a whole other level of fashion. Shapewear corsetry has also been featured in hit TV shows such as “Mad Men”, “Diary of a Call Girl”, “The Tudors” and “Desperate Housewives”. The cinched waist silhouette created by corsets is predicted to become an even stronger trend in 2011 as seen on the runways of Louis Vuitton and Dior.

As if we could admire the French any more for their skill in creating the most perfect lingerie, they make a move that wows us even more: Earlier this month in London, the French government, in collaboration with the association Lingerie Francaise, hosted a lingerie motorcade full of creations from France’s premier lingerie brands. The motorcade passed several major department stores and boutiques that carry the 8 labels featured– our own Chantelle, Aubade, Simone Perele and Passionata among them.

The girls rode in some pretty serious sets of wheels– two vintage Bentleys, a Phantom and a Rolls Royce were just a few of the stylish rides.

Evidently, France values its lingerie industry so much that the government sponsors the infiltration of other countries to seduce them with French knickers. Similar events have been held in Toronto and Hong Kong, with the promise of stops in other cities soon.

We recently had the most fabulous group of bridesmaids host a lingerie shower at the boutique for their bride-to-be friend. Drinks in hand, the girls wasted no time getting fitted, trying on all sorts of lingerie goodies, and picking out gifts for the bride (who, for the big night, settled on THE most gorgeous Aubade bodysuit). If you love your lingerie as much as we do, you’re always looking for subtle ways to show it off.

And what is more clever, mes amies, than wearing your waist cincher as a belt?

The trick is to look for a thick cincher with detachable garters (most of Aubade’s styles have this feature, like the cincher from the Romance A Kyoto collection, pictured above. You can also find less expensive versions like Jezebel’s Elektra cincher, $24). Simply remove the garters and pair with an appropriate skirt and top, or wear as a cummerbund with a sharp-looking blazer.
